In a liberal faith that has no central creed to which we all subscribe, how are we to understand our collective theology? This series will explore liberal theology, historical Unitarian and Universalist theologies, and some possibilities for a Unitarian Universalist theology that would embrace our various beliefs and paths.
Henry David Thoreau
Live and in Person! (Almost)
7-8:30 p.m., Monday, Nov 16, the Sanctuary
“Mr. Thoreau” takes the stage at Northwoods for an evening of lecture and conversation. He answers audience questions and shares with passion his views on slavery, government, war, and education.
Concord (MA) historian and living history interpreter Richard Smith takes us back to pre-Civil War America, c.1860, for a glimpse at the Transcendalists and mid-19th century America.

A study-and-discussion series of William Linden’s book, Historical Jesus for Beginners: a Primer on Contemporary Biblical Scholarship. What would Christianity be if it were based on the historical Jesus? The author, a Jesus Seminar scholar, will lecture at NUUC in the spring. $15 book fee; register by October 15.

Associate Professor of Politics and African American Studies at Princeton University, Melissa Harris-Lacewell challenges us to pause in the moment of American racial transformation and ask how faith and reason can guide our politics toward more just ends.
Bring your brown bag or have pizza and sodas. Place your order before second service: $5 for adults (12 and older), $2 for children.
Childcare is available for all Adult Religious Education classes. Be sure to include the ages of your children when you register.

Registration forms are available on the shelf in the greeters’ area. They can be dropped off in the church office.

Include the name of the class(es), whether you will need childcare and, if so, the ages of the children, your daytime phone number, and whether you will need an accessible facility.
Payment for classes that have a book or material fee can be made at the church office or at the first class meeting. If payment would be a financial hardship, indicate on your registration form and arrangements will be made.
